Getting In

Your MBA application process will involve the following elements:

Element 1. MBA Essay Writing:

It may be only 500 words, but the MBA essay portion of a business school application can mean the difference between acceptance and rejection. How you write your personal essay shows the admissions committee why you are different from everybody else. It provides information about you that test scores, grades, and extracurricular pursuits just cannot.

Element 2. MBA Admissions Interviews:

Admissions interviewers are always looking for a candidate who has the right fit and whether he/she possesses the necessary qualifications or not. So, always fight to get an interview. The interview is a highly effective tool to demonstrate to Admissions who you really are as a person and the types of unique contributions you will be able to make to the class if admitted!

Element 3. MBA Application Recommendations:

Recommendations are pretty much the last truly controllable element in your application. Don't underestimate the importance of these letters. While other elements of your application are vital components to it, an excellent letter of recommendation can potentially make up for weaknesses in any of them. That is why it is important to begin thinking about these letters as soon as possible.

Element 4. MBA Admissions and Professional Experience:

Professional experience is yet another critical element evaluated in an application since schools are trying to assess your management potential and the best way to do so is for them to determine your managerial success to date. In addition, ADCOMS are interested in those candidates that have more extensive work experience.

Element 5. The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT):

The General Management Admission Test (GMAT) is perceived as the most dreaded and challenging piece of the MBA admissions puzzle. The GMAT is a required element for every accredited Business school in the United States . This test provides Admission Committees with a standardized measure of academic ability. Do not make the mistake of assuming that the GMAT is taken lightly. It’s amazing for me to hear rejected applicants admit that their GMAT scores where not a big concern to them.

Element 6. The Grade Point Average (GPA):

When Admission reads your undergraduate transcripts, they are trying to assess one thing: your intellectual potential. They are attempting to determine whether you possess the mental fortitude to succeed in the program.

Your undergraduate degree will have little effect on your chances for admission to most business schools, so don't think that a BA in English or History will be a weakness.
